Avid® has today announced an update for its Pro Tools® audio production software that introduces ARA 2 support for solutions from iZotope, Synchro Arts and Sound Radix. The update also adds two new included MIDI effect plugins from Mixed In Key, session export for Media Composer®, Dolby Atmos® enhancements, improved searching and importing of session data, memory locations enhancements, MIDI pitch labels, and more.

ARA Support for Industry-leading Plugins

Pro Tools 2024.6 adds ARA 2 support for six industry-leading plugins, including iZotope RX Spectral Editor, Synchro Arts RePitch, VocAlign, and Revoice Pro, as well as Sound Radix Auto-Align 2 and Auto-Align Post 2. Together with existing Celemony Melodyne integration, ARA 2 support enables users to leverage these tools significantly faster and easier in Pro Tools without having to roundtrip audio. Additionally, customers with active Pro Tools subscriptions and perpetual upgrade plans will automatically receive the ARA 2 plugins for iZotope RX Spectral Editor and Synchro Arts RePitch Elements as part of this release.

New Included MIDI Effect Plugins

The 2024.6 update gives Pro Tools customers two new MIDI plugins by Mixed In Key: Captain Chords Lite and Human Lite. Captain Chords Lite is a perfect songwriting companion that allows users to pick any key and instantly create chords to try out, with complete control over inversions, substitutions, and passing tones. Captain Chords Lite also includes a library of chord progressions and rhythms to experiment and create something amazing. The Human Lite plugin adds the organic feel of live musicians to quantized MIDI performances, loops, and even entire tracks. The Captain Chords Lite and Human Lite plugins are exclusively available to all Pro Tools customers with active subscriptions and perpetual upgrade plans.

Session Export for Avid Media Composer

Building on recent interoperability improvements, Pro Tools Ultimate users can now save a copy of a session as a Media Composer compatible file, greatly simplifying sound-for-picture workflows. This new file format includes sample accurate volume and pan automation and markers that can be imported into Media Composer to streamline workflows between teams.

“Avid is known for partnering with developers to deliver better experiences,” says Rob D’Amico, Senior Director of Pro Tools Product Management at Avid. “We’re thrilled to work with these industry leaders to integrate their solutions and give our music and sound-for-picture customers the most streamlined workflows possible. This release also improves interoperability between Pro Tools and Media Composer, enabling audio and video teams to collaborate for improved efficiency.”

Other New Pro Tools 2024.6 Features

Pro Tools 2024.6 also includes:

  • Enhancements to the internal Pro Tools Dolby Atmos renderer, including 9.1.4 and 7.1.2 monitoring and metering directly in the renderer window, Stereo Direct output format support, and dedicated controls for soloing Atmos groups and setting binaural and group settings in the I/O Setup.
  • New comprehensive filtering options, more visual information, and the ability to import entire folders with member tracks speeding up the importing of tracks from different sessions.
  • New Memory Location improvements with separate modes for managing/multiselecting memory locations and interacting/recalling them, plus new key commands that enable users to more easily navigate between timeline marker locations.
  • MIDI pitch labels on the piano roll and MIDI notes, making it easier for creators not familiar with music theory to recognize which notes they are playing, recording, or need to modify in chords.
