New York City-based Polygon Labs has announced that one of its long-standing customers, APTN used Polygon solutions for its news coverage of the recent Canadian Election.
Based in Winnipeg, Canada, APTN is the world’s first national Indigenous broadcaster and connects with its audiences through genuine, inspiring and engaging entertainment on multiple platforms.
Throughout the Canadian Election, which took place on Monday, September 20, APTN used a range of Polygon Labs’ software solutions.
This includes the company’s data aggregation and visualization platform Ipsum, which aggregates data from the Canadian press and distributes it in real-time to APTN’s Vizrt newsroom graphics templates, PCR playout and ticker Viz Engines.
In addition, APTN used Polygon’s Chronos interactive data-driven storytelling and visualization software to display Election results, data-driven maps and analysis visualization, via a simple touch screen.
APTN also used Polygon Labs’ Creative Hub to deliver remote, on-demand real-time Election graphics, channel branding and virtual production.
Creative Hub provides a highly cost-effective design subscription service that can be used as and when customers need it most, simply by making a request through the Creative Hub portal.
Polygon Labs designed and built APTN’s Elections program opening and bumper graphics using Unreal Engine 4.7, which allows high-quality animations to be built in real-time.
This creates time efficiency, as there’s no need to render the motion graphics, and allows creation of data-driven animations with post-production quality in real-time.
Wayne McKenzie, APTN Executive Director of Operations, explains: “Because we’ve worked with Polygon Labs for a long time there’s a strong element of trust.
“We know that we can absolutely rely on the team to provide the solutions that we need to create sophisticated graphics that illustrate the story as it unfolds before, during and after the results process, as well as a reliable workflow based on years of experience that brings everything together.”
David Jorba, Polygon Labs’ Chief Strategy & Business Development Officer adds: “We’re delighted that APTN turned to us to assist with this important news coverage.
“By using a selection of software solutions, along with our design services, we could build highly creative, reliable and seamless graphics workflows suited to this fast-paced, high-pressure environment.”
