Tuxera, a leading provider of quality-assured file systems and networking technologies
ATTO Technology, for more than 35 years a global leader in network and storage connectivity
Show how they have eliminated data flow limitations for creative users on Apple computers
Recognizing the ever-increasing demands for media throughput in challenging environments like post-production, two leaders in network technology have worked together to achieve unprecedented performance. Tuxera, a leading provider of quality-assured file systems and networking technologies, and ATTO Technology, for more than 35 years a global leader in network and storage connectivity, will show how they have eliminated data flow limitations for creative users on Apple computers.
System architects in high-pressure environments like post houses are often frustrated that vital overheads like metadata negotiation, protocol housekeeping and other background activities mean that real-world performance is significantly lower than published specifications. ATTO and Tuxera have tackled this issue head-on, developing complementary software and hardware optimizations to boost SMB throughput.
ATTO360™ Networking includes a tuning profile designed specifically for Tuxera Fusion SMB environments, while the new ATTO SMB Overdrive feature optimizes SMB performance within its latest macOS driver for FastFrame™ Ethernet NICs and ThunderLink® Thunderbolt™ adapters. Using two ThunderLink NS 5102 adapters, each connected through a separate Thunderbolt 5 port and 100GbE network path, ATTO has demonstrated sustained sequential read speeds exceeding 10,000 MB/s on macOS.
“Our goal is to unleash the full potential of creative tools and networks,” said Duncan Beattie, senior market development manager at Tuxera. “SMB is the widely accepted protocol, and in Tuxera Fusion SMB we have sought to get the absolute best out of it.”
He continued, “We have worked very closely with ATTO Technology to push performance on macOS. Fusion SMB alongside ATTO 100GbE, the ATTO360 Fusion profile and SMB Overdrive delivers exceptional SMB performance for macOS. In our labs, we achieved 10.5 GB/s on a Mac Pro at NAB 2025, and as we head into IBC we have now reached more than 13 GB/s using dual ThunderLinks.
“For media production in mixed-OS workflows, macOS, Windows and Linux can all deliver at least 10 GB/s over standard protocols.”
For ATTO Technology, product manager Tom Johnson said, “ATTO FastFrame SmartNICs and ThunderLink Thunderbolt-to-Ethernet adapters are already widely used in critical media applications. ATTO360 Networking, with its Tuxera Fusion-optimized profile and now paired with our new SMB Overdrive macOS driver, delivers unrivaled performance while simplifying the setup, optimization and management of Ethernet networks.”
Visitors to IBC2026 can see the results of this collaboration, including speed demonstrations, at Tuxera on stand 5.A40 and ATTO Technology, stand 7.A24.
