Bifrost Communications today announced a strategic collaboration with Gravity Media a global leader in live production and content and media services and facilities. This collaboration involved successful testing of Bifrost’s innovative 25G Quasi-Coherent (QC) pluggable optical transceiver for transporting demanding SMPTE ST 2110 broadcast media transport over long distances.

 

This important collaboration promises to bring a new cost-effective option to the Broadcast Media industry seeking to deploy Ethernet/Optical networks for SMPTE ST 2110 media transport. Bifrost have developed the industry’s first 25G DWDM SFP28 pluggable transceiver, combining extended reach, ultra-low latency, low power consumption, and compact SFP-class form factor operation.

A New Innovative Approach to 25G Optical Connectivity

Bifrost’s patented Quasi-Coherent technology was developed to bridge the gap between traditional IM-DD optics and conventional coherent transmission systems. Unlike fully coherent solutions, which rely on power-hungry DSP architectures, Bifrost’s QC platform delivers enhanced chromatic dispersion tolerance, extended reach, and DWDM compatibility while maintaining low latency, reduced power profile, and compact dimensions required for mobile fronthaul, edge and access applications.

The integration of semi-tunable laser technology further strengthens this proposition by introducing operational flexibility traditionally associated with coherent platforms, without compromising the intrinsic advantages of the DSP-free QC architecture.
