Starting Pixel, a global community dedicated to the future of filmmaking, has launched a weekly podcast series aimed at informing and inspiring a wider creative audience about the advances of virtual production.

The podcast seeks to broaden the conversation beyond the common assumptions around virtual production technology and approaches. With an honest, open conversation format, it features creative and technical professionals discussing their experiences and real-life learnings.

The series is designed to appeal to anyone who is inquisitive about the future of visual storytelling, including traditional crews and filmmaking departments, marketing teams, brands, and influencers. These audiences know they need to upskill and understand new developments but want to avoid being overwhelmed by complex terminology or technical jargon.

Established in 2023, Starting Pixel’s community of virtual production specialists and enthusiasts has grown to more than 1,000 members, spanning 70+ countries. The podcast is hosted by founder Rob Chandler and guest co-hosts, with new episodes dropping weekly. The first ten episodes are available immediately and feature topics including:

  • Colour Science with Dan Mulligan of ColourQ
  • What is a 360 Driving Plate and Why Should You Care? with Eric Hasso, founder of Igelkott Studios
  • A Breakdown of a Viral BTS Video with 3D Artist, Gianni Piechota
  • Why Aren’t Corporates Using Virtual Production When It Makes So Much Sense?, with Will Coleman, Microsoft

“In my mind, virtual production is a movement – not just technology, but a fundamental, disruptive approach to create compelling stories at speed,” explains Rob Chandler, Founder, Starting Pixel. “There are massive opportunities for efficiency and ease of use, but for wider adoption, we need to make these themes as accessible as possible.

“The current challenge is that virtual production doesn’t currently have a single destination for broader appeal. Instead, it exists in niche pockets across cinematography or Unreal topics, for example. Our goal is for Starting Pixel to fill that gap, and provide a welcoming, collaborative way to show the Art of the Possible – and highlight what incredible things are being created with these new approaches.”
